Sarah Moore and Lindsay Golden’s adorable dogs are Winston, a Dachshund, and Mijo, a 15-year-old Chiweenie. They recently paid a visit to a family in Evergreen, Colorado, a mountainous town southwest of Denver. While it’s a lovely place to live, small, domesticated animals face some added dangers.
On a lovely Saturday morning, the dogs escaped through an open door, and a mountain lion took Mijo in a matter of seconds. Winston immediately rushed after the mountain lion, refusing to let his size be an issue. Instead, he barked at the big animal forcefully till it finally dropped Mijo. Golden snatched up the injured puppy and took him to an emergency veterinarian after the mountain lion let him go.
Such a horrible occurrence had ramifications. Mijo had to undergo emergency surgery at the vet and had his eye removed. Mijo was also assessed for further management. The mountain lion nipped the puppy on the head, injuring his scalp and neck.
Moore turned to social media and created a fundraising page in GoFundMe for Mijo’s recovery costs. The dog is currently being monitored since he is showing indicators of neurological impairment, such as seizures. In addition, he’s been on anti-seizure medicine for a while now. The fundraising page’s purpose is to cover the costs of Mijo’s expensive treatment.
According to Lindsay Golden, the two dogs were great friends, so it’s no wonder why Winston ran after and saved Mijo. Lindsay Golden warmly described Winston as “a 20-pound dog with the courage of a 200-pound dog.”
Accidents do occur regularly. However, we are grateful that there are dogs like Winston, who is always there for his best friend and has rescued him from a much more dire situation, giving him a second chance at living and enjoying life.
